Specifying a design style.
Care should always be used when stating the design style on a specification, as stating a FEFCO number can prove both restrictive and misleading. We normally regard customers’ drawings as guides and redraw them to our normal designs and production standards, with any unique features being incorporated as appropriate.

What type of design should I choose?
The FEFCO design manual contains many different types of pack styles, many of them are general in nature and the illustrations are unoptimized. E-commerce tends to need more specialised designs due to the rigors of the distribution chain and its fast-packing requirements. Our ongoing design department policy will be to create drawings for all designs where possible. Completely custom designs will be drawn up, if possible.
For example, Parcel box Vs Crash Lock These are two common designs used in e-commerce. The designs have been adapted and optimised for e-Commerce by Ready Case to improve the strength and production efficiency while minimising the possibilities of tampering with the goods. Typically, the parcel box is most suited to shallower depth sizes, especially those with relatively large length and widths.
The crash lock design on the other hand is more suited to slightly higher depths and works best where the ratios of length, width and depth sizes are not too extreme. That said, Ready Case has superior gluing equipment and due to some pack design innovations can produce shallower crash lock designs. Crash locks are typically faster to make up than a parcel box.
For items with small depth measurements, for instance books or computer cables, Ready Pacs, Twistwraps and envelopes
are a good option.
